Founded in 2008 by Jedd Rose and Mark Hansen, Topo Design offers simple, classic but well-designed outdoor products. Both of the founders grew up in the West part of the USA and always spent their time outside. They both expressed an interest in developing products that would remind them of the one they used when they were younger, i.e. classic, but functional and durable. They also wanted to develop a connection between the company and its customers. That’s what they’ve managed to create over the years, with the help of partners initially found in Colorado, with whom Topo Design still collaborates today.
The Dirt Shirt
The Dirt Shirt from Topo Design is a classic shirt with a straight fit with a single pocket on the chest. Made of 98% organic cotton and 2% spandex, this shirt is resistant enough to play outside, but also perfect for casual activities. They call it your next Go-to piece, and it is true. One thing that I love about this shirt, from the Dirt Collection, is the fabric. It is very soft and comfortable. Topo Design employs a method of dyed wash that softens the color and the fabric. It feels like an old one, even if it is new.
There are 9 different colors for this shirt, they are most like earth tones and mine is black. It is not a very dark black, it is a rather faded black.
The fit is proper and the size is true. I chose the medium one, so the fit is just tight enough on me. It is perfect when I wear this shirt buttoned all the way up to the collar. If I wanted to wear it open, with a t-shirt underneath, I think it would have been preferable to take a larger size (i.e. the large). This model is also available for women.
