The Race Across Québec returns for its second edition, bringing riders face-to-face with one of the toughest ultra-distance cycling challenges in Canada. Covering hundreds of kilometers across diverse terrain, it demands not only physical strength but also sharp strategy and mental resilience. With just one week to go before the start, we asked seasoned endurance cyclists to share their best advice for approaching such a monumental challenge.
Geneviève Healey – 2024 Race Across Series participant and ultra-endurance cyclist
Start conservatively. The pace you can sustain for long-distance endurance is not the same as on a ‘normal’ ride. It’s easy to get carried away at the start and follow others in the excitement—that’s a trap. You need to resist it. Then, focus on one kilometer at a time. Break your event into smaller sections… slow and steady is the key.
Another important factor is optimizing your stops: whether it’s for food, bathroom breaks, sunscreen, or charging devices. It’s easy to lose countless minutes here and there, and in the bigger picture, too many unnecessary stops can be discouraging.
Félix Laberge – Tour Divide participant and endurance cyclist
Stay focused on your own race. Don’t overreact to the moves others make around you. If you stick to your plan, it will pay off in the long run. Consistency matters more than raw power.
Nutrition is also crucial: eat according to the time of day—lighter during the night, but don’t forget electrolytes during the day. And know when it’s time for a proper meal.
Dominic Ménard – Ex-pro cyclist and cycling globetrotter

If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. Avoid making last-minute changes. If your setup works well during training and in your regular rides, stick with it. Trust the equipment and setup you already know.
Final Thoughts
Whether it’s pacing wisely, staying consistent, fueling properly, or trusting the setup you’ve trained with, the pros all agree: success at the Race Across Québec comes down to discipline and smart decisions. One week out, the best thing you can do is prepare your mind and body for the long journey ahead.
