FSA recently joined us in our latest cyclocross article, contributing their A-Wing AGX handlebar to the project. This addition brings a focus on performance and design that aligns well with the demands of off-road and gravel riding, making it a fitting choice for this review.
About FSA
With a long history of designing premium cycling components, FSA is recognized for balancing functionality with durability. The brand has earned its place in both professional and recreational cycling, offering products that serve the specific needs of various riding styles. FSA’s commitment to quality shines through in their A-Wing AGX handlebar, which has been tailored for adventure and gravel cyclists.
The A-wing AGX
The A-Wing AGX handlebar stands out as an alloy component specifically designed for adventure, gravel, and cyclocross riding. It features Aerodynamic Cable Routing (ACR), keeping cables neatly integrated within the alloy structure for a clean, streamlined look. The handlebar is crafted with sculpted contact points on the “hoods” and “drops” for greater ergonomic comfort across different hand positions. Additionally, the flared drops enhance control on descents, while the range of widths from 420mm to 480mm, along with a 120mm drop, 80mm reach, and a 15° outward bend, offers a thoughtful mix of comfort and control.
Testing
In our gravel biking tests, the A-Wing’s extended reach was immediately noticeable, giving it a longer profile than many other handlebars. The ovalized top section provided comfort for both short and long rides, making it a reliable choice for mixed-terrain adventures. The handlebar also includes multiple access points for internal cable routing, keeping cables organized and out of the way. One consideration is the limited space before the bar transitions to an oval shape, which can restrict mounting options for devices. We managed to fit a Wahoo out-front mount, though the outward sweep beginning just past the stem mount meant that the computer sat slightly askew—an aesthetic detail that might be noticeable for riders who like a perfectly aligned cockpit.
In conclusion
Overall, the FSA A-Wing AGX handlebar delivers stability, control, and ergonomic support, performing well on both short and extended rides. With its smart design and integrated features, it’s a top choice for those looking to enhance their setup for gravel or cyclocross riding.
