When FSA approached me to test the SL-K OFF-ROAD AGX for gravel biking, I was eager to contribute to their continuous product development. They were looking for feedback from riders who regularly tackle mixed terrain, and I was happy to take on the task.
About FSA
FSA, or Full Speed Ahead, is a brand that has built its reputation on precision, performance, and innovation. From WorldTour-level road components to trail-proven mountain bike parts, their catalog is extensive and reflects a deep understanding of what riders demand. Their growing focus on gravel components is a natural extension of that philosophy.
The SL-K off-road AGX
The SL-K OFF-ROAD AGX wheels feature asymmetric carbon rims with a 25 mm internal width, 26.1 mm external width, and a 30 mm depth. This combination offers a great mix of compliance and stiffness. Available in both 650B and 700C formats, they come tubeless ready and are built around Center Lock hubs with 24 straight pull spokes in a two cross pattern. The wheelset weighs approximately 1500 grams in 700C, making it competitive for serious gravel riders.
Testing
On rough gravel roads, the wheels offered a precise and responsive feel. The carbon construction managed to absorb chatter without feeling vague, giving me confidence through fast, uneven sections. I experimented with various tire widths, and both 40 mm and 45 mm options seated easily and held well, offering the versatility I was hoping for.
On narrow singletrack, the stiffness helped maintain direction and momentum, especially through tight turns and rocky corners. The hub engagement felt quick, making it easy to accelerate out of slow sections. On paved roads, the SL-K OFF-ROAD AGX rolled smoothly and felt fast without compromising comfort.
In conclusion
The SL-K OFF-ROAD AGX from FSA is a strong and lightweight wheelset built to handle the wide range of conditions that gravel riders face. From rough gravel to light trails and smooth tarmac, it delivered consistent performance and reliability. Backed by FSA’s trusted engineering, this is a wheelset I would confidently recommend for anyone looking to enhance their gravel riding experience.
