When Hoka reached out for my feedback on their latest collaboration with MAAP, I was immediately interested. As someone who enjoys both running and cycling, the idea of a trail running shoe designed in partnership with a brand known for its sleek, technical cycling apparel was intriguing. I wanted to see how the Tecton X 2 platform would merge with MAAP’s distinctive design language and whether that blend could work as well on the trails as it does in their apparel collections.
About Hoka
Hoka has built a reputation for innovation in performance footwear, often pushing boundaries with bold cushioning profiles, lightweight materials, and thoughtful design for both road and trail. Their shoes are trusted by elite athletes and everyday runners alike, delivering a unique blend of comfort, responsiveness, and durability that is hard to match. Over the years, Hoka has also embraced collaborations, and this partnership with MAAP is a perfect example of their ability to combine function with a striking aesthetic.
The Tecton X 2 MAAP

The Tecton X 2 MAAP keeps the technical DNA of the standard Tecton X 2 but dresses it in a unique, limited-edition style. The upper uses a lightweight, hydrophobic Matryx® fabric reinforced with Kevlar, giving it a firm yet forgiving wrap around the foot that feels secure without being restrictive. A dual-density ProFly-X midsole layers plush cushioning on top with a firmer, more responsive base, while parallel carbon fiber plates add propulsion and help every step roll forward with purpose. Underneath, a Vibram® Megagrip Litebase outsole provides confident traction whether the ground is dusty, damp, or somewhere in between. The MAAP influence shows in the vibrant colorway, reflective detailing, and overall finish that makes this shoe as eye-catching in the city as it is on the trail.
Testing
Testing these shoes took me from gravel paths to light trails and even into my daily routine. On gravel runs, the carbon plates gave each step a gentle spring, and the cushioning absorbed the steady hum of small stones underfoot. On light trails, the shoe felt stable and predictable, with the outsole biting into loose sections without hesitation. Even after an hour of uneven terrain, my feet still felt fresh. Off the trails, I wore them for errands and to work, and the breathable upper kept them feeling airy while the midsole stayed comfortable for long stretches of standing or walking. I caught myself forgetting they were “trail shoes” until someone commented on the design.
In conclusion
In the end, the Hoka Tecton X 2 MAAP impressed me both as a performance shoe and as a versatile, stylish option for everyday life. It delivers the energetic ride and trail capability I expect from Hoka, wrapped in a design that reflects my love for cycling aesthetics. Whether you are running, exploring, or just looking for a comfortable and distinctive shoe to wear daily, this collaboration more than delivers.
