Vittoria reached out to me to review their latest gravel tire, the Terreno T50, designed to handle a wide variety of riding conditions. Having used Vittoria products before, I was curious to see how this new model would perform across commuting, leisure rides, and light bikepacking adventures.
About Vittoria
Vittoria is a well-established name in the cycling industry, known for its innovation and use of advanced materials. Their graphene-infused compounds have earned a strong reputation for balancing durability, speed, and grip, making them a preferred choice for riders looking for performance across multiple terrains.
The Terreno T50
The Terreno T50 is available in 700x40c, 700x45c, and 700x50c, making it suitable for a wide range of bikes and rider preferences. This tubeless-ready tire features a tread pattern with compact center knobs for fast rolling on pavement, transitioning into more pronounced side lugs for enhanced traction on loose surfaces. The black sidewall version I tested paired well with my setup, mounted on 23mm internal width aluminum rims, and though tubeless-ready, I opted to run them with tubes during all my tests.
Testing
For testing, I began by using the tires for daily commuting, inflating them to 45–50 psi to reduce rolling resistance. The closely spaced center tread made them quick and smooth on pavement, while still absorbing impacts from potholes and rough patches. Next, I took them onto mixed surfaces—stone dust and hard-packed dirt—lowering the pressure to 27–30 psi. This adjustment allowed the side knobs to engage during cornering, maintaining confident traction even when the terrain turned slightly damp.
Finally, I pushed the Terreno T50s on a 200+ km light bikepacking trip, loaded with roughly 50 lbs of gear. The tire handled the combination of asphalt, gravel access roads, and packed dirt exceptionally well, offering a stable and comfortable ride. In looser, deeper gravel, I noticed a slight reduction in traction, which could be improved by choosing the wider 45c or 50c version if your route includes more unpredictable terrain.
In conclusion
In conclusion, the Vittoria Terreno T50 is a versatile and dependable tire that performs across a wide variety of conditions. With the right pressure adjustments and size selection, it can handle everything from weekday commutes to multi-day gravel adventures. If you’re looking for one tire that can do it all, the Terreno T50 is a strong candidate.
