There are objects that are more than just useful. They become extensions of ourselves, points of reference in motion. Fjällräven’s Skule 28 is one of those. It doesn’t seek to impress, it prefers to accompany. Silently. Precisely. Designed for everyday life that takes unexpected turns, it adapts to changing rhythms: work, bike, hike, meeting, escape. Here is what I have to say about this bag.
About Fjällräven
Fjällräven is a Swedish outdoor equipment and clothing company that has been committed to making nature more accessible since it was founded by Åke Nordin in 1960 in Örnsköldsvik. Guided by nature, the brand focuses on developing functional, durable, and timeless outdoor gear while acting responsibly towards nature, animals, and people. Fjällräven is globally recognized for its respect for the environment and its focus on sustainability.
The Skule 28 Backpack

The Skule 28 is a versatile 28-litre backpack from Fjällräven’s High Coast family, designed to transition seamlessly between everyday urban life and shorter outdoor excursions, such as day hikes. Here some key features and specifications about this bag:
- Capacity of 28 Litres, so not too big but perfect to carry the essential.
- Made from hardwearing, water-repellent Oxford fabric and lining, both made from 100% recycled polyester (600D), produced without PFAS.
- There is a zippered main compartment with a padded sleeve for a 15″ laptop (which also doubles as a hydration system pocket with an opening for a drinking tube). Also, a spacious zippered front compartment with internal mesh organizing pockets, and an easily accessed top quick-access pocket.
- Comfortable padded shoulder straps and a back panel featuring air mesh for breathability, plus adjustable and detachable chest and hip straps.
- And finally, an external bungee cord for stashing a wet jacket or extra gear, side stretch pockets for water bottles, and reflective details on the shoulder straps and rear.
The Testing
From a daily commute in motorcycle to weekend adventures, the Fjällräven Skule 28 has proven to be the most versatile and comfortably balanced backpack I’ve owned. Neither too bulky for a day in the city, nor too sparse for a day on the trail. Even if I’m using it mostly for outdoor activities, the Skule 28 is clean enough to look professional for work, yet still has the necessary external lash points and bungee system to feel genuinely outdoorsy.
I found the organization perfectly balances; A roomy main cavity with smart pocket placement. Crucially, the external compartments are excellent. The top zippered pocket has become my most used feature, serving as the perfect quick-access spot for keys, wallet, and headphones, eliminating the constant fumble. The front compartment, with its internal mesh dividers, is perfect for organising my stuff, preventing them from sinking into a bottomless pit.
Comfort is another major win. Even when fully loaded with a jacket, my lunch, and a bulky water bottle, the padded back panel with air mesh and comfortable shoulder straps distribute the weight effectively. I’ve used the bag for several-hour hikes and motorcycle rides, and it remains stable and comfortable. The removable chest and hip straps are a nice touch, offering added stability when needed but easily tucked away for a cleaner look.
To Conclude
After weeks of continuous use the Fjällräven Skule 28 has consistently impressed me. It is functional and responsibly made. It stands out by successfully blending a refined, everyday carry aesthetic with the practical features needed for outdoor activity. Its intelligent organisation, robust recycled materials, and supreme carrying comfort make it an exceptional investment for the modern user who demands versatility. The Skule 28 is not just a backpack; it’s a reliable partner for every facet of an active, ‘everyday outdoor’ lifestyle.
