I usually know Fjällräven for its renowned Keb Trousers line. This summer, I was introduced to a product that is the complete opposite of that line, which is typically designed for technical alpine trekking. I had the chance to test some pants from the Vardag collection; The Vardag Relaxed Trousers. This collection focuses on daily urban commutes and casual weekend wear. Here is my impression of it.
About Fjällräven
As you may know, Fjällräven, which means “Arctic Fox” in Swedish, is a renowned outdoor brand established in 1960 by Ake Nordin. Founded in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, the company began with the idea of crafting functional, durable, and comfortable outdoor gear. Today, the brand is globally recognized for its signature arctic fox logo, which focuses on functional design and commitment to environmental sustainability.
The Vardag Relaxed Trousers
We can translate Vardag directly to “weekday” or “everyday” in Swedish. So this collection, as the name suggests, represents simple and clean silhouettes tailored for daily life. We are still in the G-1000 Stretch fabric, made from 65% Recycled Polyester and 35% Organic Cotton. Super lightweight.
These trousers have a relaxed fit; elastic detailing at the back of the waistband and adjustable elastic at leg endings. Which means you can decide the style you prefer for the bottom of your pants. As the other Fjällräven’s trousers, you can treat them with Greenland Wax for enhanced wind and water resistance.
The Testing
Even though they’re super versatile, to me the Vardag Relaxed Trousers are more about comfort and that laid-back weekend vibe. They’re so comfortable, they’re practically like pajamas. For example, after a long day of adventure and a nice, refreshing shower, I slip on my Vardag Trousers and feel a great sense of satisfaction. Even though this collection has a more flawless urban vibe, I’m still not a big fan of cities. So I spent more time testing these pants at home and in my natural element, the forest. In fact, they’re the perfect companion for late afternoons while camping, when I like to sit in the sun and read a good book.
The slight stretch in the G-1000 fabric combined with the partial elastic waistband allow you to move smoothly. Whether sitting down for a long time in my camping chair or stepping over a boulder close to the river, I never felt restricted. Also, I found the size was true to what I usually wear. Some of Fjällräven’s collections require you to be more careful when choosing a size, depending on the fabric and how stretchy it is. In this case, the Vardag Relaxed Trousers are true to your usual size; 34 for me. They’re neither too big nor too tight.
To Conclude
If you are looking for a modern, active lifestyle, The Vardag collection represents a good choice. I usually look for heavier duty alpine trousers with reinforcement around legs and knees, for technical treks or adventures. But honestly I’m super glad to add the Vardag Relaxed Trousers to my wardrobe. Built for the everyday adventurer I am. I’ve found a great use for these pants.
