Today, The North Face announces the launch of its all-new Summit Series Advanced Mountain Kit, an innovation-packed 24-piece collection spanning apparel, equipment, and footwear, designed to equip elite athletes with the gear they need to move quickly and achieve the most demanding of high alpine pursuits. Purpose-built with a relentless focus on weight, fit, packability, and durability, the Advanced Mountain Kit represents the brand’s most technically advanced system for fast and light pursuits in the high alpine.
“Each piece of this collection started with an athlete’s insight to move faster, lighter, or more comfortably
in the mountains while upholding our highest standards for protection,” said Cory Olson, Head of
Innovation at The North Face, “That feedback allows us to push the boundaries of what’s possible by
partnering with the world’s leading material innovators and putting every product through countless
rounds of lab testing, athlete field trials, and ultimately, extended expeditions.”
As proof to the Summit Series tagline, Athlete Tested, Expedition Proven. , the new Advanced Mountain
Kit was put to the test by numerous athletes on The North Face team, including Benjamin Védrines who
broke the speed record on K2 and Christina Lustenberger, who set a first-ever ski descent on Mt.
Robson’s south face wearing the kit.
Since the debut of the Advanced Mountain Kit in 2020, The North Face has continued to build upon its
legacy of innovation with three major advancements in this year’s collection.
Women’s Specific Kit
Women have long been breaking barriers on the world’s highest peaks, but until now, they haven’t had a
kit specifically tuned to their needs. The Advanced Mountain Kit was developed in collaboration with
Christina Lustenberger and Chantel Astorga , featuring tailored fits and insulation mapping through
gender-specific thermal testing. Each piece is engineered for optimal warmth, comfort, and mobility,
empowering female athletes to perform at their best in the most extreme alpine conditions.
Layering Theory
Built around a modular layering system, the new Advanced Mountain Kit delivers increased versatility
across a wide range of alpine pursuits, including ski mountaineering. Athletes can easily add or remove
layers to adapt to changing conditions, allowing for precise control over warmth, protection, and mobility
in the most challenging environments.
Breakthrough Material Innovation
The Advanced Mountain Kit integrates a suite of proprietary technologies developed to enhance durability without sacrificing the lightweight packability athletes demand for safety and speed. Stronger than steel Spectra® yarns deliver exceptional durability in ultralight fabrics, while Cloud Down insulation eliminates cold spots and now offers expanded mid-loft versatility. A new FUTURELIGHT® electrospun membrane provides Non-PFAS waterproof breathability reinforced with Spectra and Nanoreflect for unmatched protection and thermoregulation. 50/50 insulation enhances warmth-to-weight efficiency with a proprietary aluminum-titanium coating that reflects body heat, and the all-new DotKnit Wool blends natural odor control and thermal performance with superior moisture management for next-to-skin comfort.
The 24-piece collection spans a full range of apparel, equipment, and accessories built for the world’s most demanding alpine pursuits. From ultralight insulated layers like the Cloud Down Parka and 50/50 Hoodie, to weatherproof protection with FUTURELIGHT® shells, technical DotKnit Wool baselayers, and expedition-ready gear including the Summit Advanced Pack, 135L Duffel, Assault 2 Tent, and a SUPERLIGHT Sleep System, every piece is purpose-built to perform in the harshest environments.
