WTB recently reached out to me to test their Resolute tires in the 700×50 size, sending them under embargo before the official release. This opportunity gave me an early glimpse into what these tires could offer for a range of gravel adventures. After several weeks of rigorous testing across varied terrains, I can confidently share my thoughts on how these tires performed.
About WTB
WTB, a brand known for its innovation and reliability in the cycling world, has been crafting high-quality products for decades. Their commitment to providing durable and performance-driven gear has made them a favorite among cyclists. Whether it’s saddles, rims, or tires, WTB’s focus has always been on enhancing the riding experience through thoughtful design and superior craftsmanship.
The Resolute
The WTB Resolute tires, sized at 700×50, are designed to be the ultimate all-weather gravel tire. With a tread pattern that balances tightly packed center knobs for speed and wider-spaced outer knobs for grip, these tires are ideal for varying conditions. The larger volume of the 700×50 size offers increased comfort and better control on uneven surfaces, providing a smoother and more stable ride. In addition to its intelligent tread design, the Resolute tire features WTB’s SG2 puncture protection, a lightweight nylon insert running from bead to bead. This SG2 protection provides an additional layer of defense against punctures, abrasions, and cuts, making the tires a dependable choice for long-distance rides and rough terrain.
The combination of a high-quality casing with SG2 puncture protection means you can ride confidently, knowing your tires are built to withstand the challenges of the toughest trails.
Testing
For testing, I took the Resolute tires across a wide range of conditions, from loose gravel roads to muddy trails and everything in between. On hard-packed gravel, the tires rolled efficiently, allowing for quick acceleration and maintaining speed with minimal resistance. The tightly spaced center knobs provided excellent traction on smooth sections, while the outer knobs gripped confidently when navigating loose or wet surfaces.
When the terrain turned more technical, the Resolute tires really shined. On rocky paths and rough trails, the larger volume and supple casing absorbed impacts effectively, reducing fatigue over longer rides. The grip was reliable even on steep inclines and during sudden descents, giving me the confidence to push my limits without worrying about losing control. In muddy conditions, the open tread pattern cleared debris efficiently, preventing mud from clinging and impacting the tire’s performance.
I also had the chance to test these tires in wet weather, and I was impressed by their stability and control. The Resolute tires offered consistent grip, even on slick surfaces, allowing me to navigate wet corners with confidence. Over several hundred kilometers of diverse terrain, the tires showed minimal signs of wear, maintaining their integrity and performance throughout the test period.
