When WTB reached out to have me test their latest endurance-focused saddle, the Solano, I was immediately curious to see how it would perform on long rides. Known for their attention to rider comfort and functional design, WTB positioned this new model as the ideal balance between performance and cushioning. Over the summer, I had the chance to put it to the test on my gravel setup, from shorter spins to multi-day adventures.
About WTB
Born in Marin, California in 1982, WTB has grown into a trusted name in the cycling world, offering a wide range of components including tires, wheels, saddles, and rims. The Solano saddle is designed with endurance comfort in mind—without sacrificing performance.
The Solano saddle

The WTB Solano features 4 mm thicker padding than the Solano SL, enhancing comfort on long rides without adding unnecessary bulk. It’s available with chromoly, titanium, or carbon rails. The model I tested was the Solano Medium (142 mm x 240 mm) with a Fusion Form cover and chromoly rails—an ideal setup for both gravel and endurance road riding.
The testing
From the first few minutes, the comfort was noticeable. The short 240 mm nose offers excellent thigh clearance while pedaling, and the pressure distribution on the sit bones is well-balanced thanks to the generous padding. The central relief channel provides enough space to reduce pressure in the perineal area. I even rode it without a chamois and experienced no discomfort, even during the longest ride—a 320 km bikepacking trip.
WTB offers the Solano in two widths, making it adaptable to most riders. I recommend fine-tuning the saddle position after installation, as its shorter length may slightly change reach and feel. In my case, I moved it a bit forward to match my usual fit.
In conclusion
Overall, the WTB Solano proved to be a well-balanced saddle that combines comfort and performance. With its thicker padding and compact design, it’s a great choice for both long-distance adventures and short, spirited rides.
