This winter, I was lucky enough to test a few products for the great Cotopaxi brand. Want to know how a hybrid jacket works and what the benefits are? Here are some information and my impressions of the Capa Hybrid Insulated Hooded Jacket.
About Cotopaxi
Founded in 2014 by Davis Smith, a social entrepreneur and adventurer, the Cotopaxi brand is enjoying an exceptional rise in our North American outdoor boutiques. The brand manufactures high-quality products in compliance with ethical and environmental standards.
The Capa Hybrid
Foremost, the Capa Hybrid is a lightweight, insulated jacket. It combines PrimaLoft® Gold P.U.R.E. synthetic insulation (which means it’s produced with Reduced Emissions) with a lightweight, breathable shell. Also made from recycled nylon with a PFC-free (a synthetic chemical substance) water-repellent treatment. The jacket features stretch panels in the sleeves and on the sides for ease of movement. It also features a fitted hood, thumbholes, zipped pockets and an elastic binding at hood, cuffs and hem.
What remains the principle of a hybrid jacket?
A hybrid jacket is one that combines two different types of material, usually synthetic insulation and stretch fabric. The hybrid jacket offers great freedom of movement and breathability, especially in the arms. It is also more temperature-regulating than a fully insulated jacket. Hybrid jackets are more suitable for dynamic activities and variable conditions, like hiking, skiing or climbing.
According to Cotopaxi, the Capa Hybrid is suitable for temperatures between -5°C and 10°C. This jacket is unrecommended for extreme temperatures. It is designed to be worn as an intermediate or outer layer for outdoor activities in cool or cold, but not freezing, weather. It offers light, breathable insulation, but not enough to withstand severe winter conditions.
What I enjoy about this jacket:
- It’s made large. It’s not too tight, so it’s ideal for putting on a base layer, even a thin hoodie.
- I found it retained the warmth close to my body, but that moisture was wicked away through the sides.
- I love the principle of thumb loops, especially when it’s time to put a coat over it.
- This jacket can be packed inside its own interior chest pocket. It is very practical and easy to pack in a bag.
To conclude
Available in different color combinations, mine being the flamboyant Mezcal/Sunset, the Capa Hybrid Insulated Jacket is a very interesting product to obtain in your wardrobe. Made from recycled material, it is versatile, practical and compact. Once again, I’m under the spell of this company, which never ceases to surprise us with its innovative products, dynamic colors and design.
