SANDBOX SKI/SNOWBOARD HELMET REVIEW

I remember in my snowboarding years. I liked the idea of wearing a protection helmet without putting a beanie under it. Since I have had few concussions in my life, helmet quality are for me super important and I wanted to see if a ski/snowboard helmets could do the trick for fat biking. Don’t get me wrong here, I have not invented the use of these types of helmets for fat biking.

Since I had a great experience with their summer biking helmets, I contacted Sandbox for their winter helmets and they were kind enough to send me the 2 models they have, the Classic 2.0 and the Legend.

I always had a problem with the fit of helmets since I have a big head. Helmets are not always comfortable or just don’t fit at all. The Classic is more tight on my head but is still comfortable. The Legend model is way more comfortable and more loose too.

I tested these helmets on a 2-months period, and I I must admit that I impressed by the quality of these helmets.

The Classic 2.0 has a brim that is a great feature if the sun gets in your eyes. The liner is comfortable and the breathing is ok. This helmet is really warm over -5 celsius, and the ventilation is less effective than on the Legend model. In that case I am wearing my Sandbox biking helmet when its hot. Weight wise, it is fine but a little heavier than a cycling helmet. I recommend this helmet for colder temperature without hesitation. It also has a goggle strap.

The helmet meets the CE EN 1077:2012 Class B Helmet for Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders certification.

The Legend helmet does not have brim but it fits a little bit further so your sunglasses fits properly under it. The liner is comfortable and the breathing is way better than the Classic 2.0 model. The helmet performed ok for temperature over -5 celsius but I it perfect for colder temperature. It also has a goggle strap.

The helmet meets the CE EN 1077:2012 Class B Helmet for Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders certification.

In conclusion, do I recommend these helmets for fat biking? Yes absolutely. In my opinion they are both good helmets but I highly suggest to try them on before buying.

Ever since he can remember he was riding bikes not being attracted to video games. In his teenage years he was racing bikes until he had a big accident that slowed him down and at a certain point he stopped riding. It is few years later that came he back on a bike and got the ‘’bug’’ again to be more serious about it and started a bike related blog. It is after a trip during covid that he realized that it would be great to talk about all his outdoor passions but with the perspective to inform the regular non technical people. This is how Allday magazine was born.
