This season, I trained with one clear objective: to take part in the Race Across Quebec and complete the 325 km distance. I took this challenge very seriously, dedicating myself all year to prepare both physically and mentally. This was my very first ultra-distance cycling experience, and I wanted to be ready to enjoy every moment of it.
About the Race Across series
The Race Across series is much more than a cycling event. It is an endurance challenge that brings together passionate cyclists from all over. With different distances to suit all levels, it creates an inspiring atmosphere where every participant arrives with their own strategy, motivation, and determination.
Preparation and arrival
In the months leading up to the race, I received newsletters from the organization that were extremely helpful in making sure I was fully prepared. From packing lists to detailed advice, they ensured no detail was left to chance.
On Friday before the start, I arrived early to watch participants in the longer distances pass by, which was a truly motivating sight. Later, we enjoyed a pasta party that was more than perfect, not only for fueling up but also for connecting with fellow riders. A mandatory technical inspection followed to confirm that all the required safety items were in place. With the start scheduled at 4:00 am, the night was short but filled with excitement.
The start line

My start was at 4:22 am and from the very beginning the energy from the organization and participants was contagious. Riders were lined up early, checking their bikes and making last-minute adjustments under the dim lights of the morning. Having tested my setup beforehand, I felt confident in my bike, lights, and bags, knowing they would perform under the long day ahead. Off we went into the night, filled with anticipation, as months of preparation instantly turned into reality.
My bike set up
I had already shared the details of my setup in a previous article, and this event confirmed that everything was dialed in. My bag, light, and bike performed perfectly, and all the testing I did prior to the event truly paid off. Having full confidence in my equipment made a big difference in tackling 325 km with consistency.
Strategy
My plan was simple: carry everything I needed on the bike, food, liquids, and essentials,to minimize stops along the way. Of course, sometimes nature has its own plan, but with plenty of convenience stores on the course, we always had reliable options if needed. The strategy worked well overall, but I realized that having a “real” meal earlier would have helped me sustain even higher energy levels. Despite quick stops for food and the occasional Coca Cola fix, I only took the time to eat a proper sandwich with about 100 km and 1000 m of climbing left. It was the right choice at that moment, but next time I will refine this part of my strategy.
The Course

Unlike many participants, I did not study the course in advance or ride any of it beforehand. My training included similar elevation profiles over shorter distances, and while I knew a few sectors because they are close to home, much of it remained a surprise. That surprise turned out to be spectacular. The course delivered in every way: smooth roads, stunning scenery, and a perfectly balanced challenge that was both demanding and achievable.
The Sainte Anne des Lacs climb was the most memorable test. With only 50 km left, its steep gradient required everything I had. But it was also motivating, as I knew it was the last big climb before reaching the finish line.
The Arrival

Crossing the finish line was an unforgettable moment. Supporters were cheering, the atmosphere was electric, and the warm welcome from the Ultra community made it even more special. Right away we received our finisher photo, a beer, a t-shirt, and a trophy. To my surprise, I still had plenty of energy left, though emotions were mixed between pride and the bittersweet feeling that it was already over.
The best reward came right after: burgers and a cold beer, which I enjoyed in record time. Waiting for my friends to arrive, followed by a shower and some well-deserved rest, was the perfect way to close such an intense and unforgettable day.
To Conclude
The Race Across Québec was the culmination of an entire season of preparation and stands as the biggest cycling event and distance I have ever completed. From the flawless organization to the beauty of the course, from the incredible Ultra community to the cheers of supporters along the way, this experience exceeded every expectation. I am proud to have taken on this challenge and grateful for everything it brought me.
For anyone considering it, the Race Across Québec is more than just a challenge. It is an unforgettable experience that will stay with you long after the finish line. If you are looking for a true cycling challenge that combines endurance, community, and unforgettable scenery, this is the perfect event to discover what you are capable of.
This was only the beginning of my journey into ultra-distance cycling. See you next year.
